Alfred Abraham Kent Papers, . 1828-1944 (bulk 1895-1930)

Alfred Abraham Kent was a physician and businessman of Lenoir, N.C. The collection includes personal correspondence, and business and medical papers, chiefly 1895-1930, dealing with Kent's varied business interests and his activities as member of the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners and as a member and president (1912) of the North Carolina Medical Society. Also included are account books, 1886-1918, for Kent's medical practice and drugstore in Lenoir, and about thirty essays written by Kent when he was a student at the University of North Carolina. Early letters, 1828-1843, are from friends in Fluvanna County, Va., and Christian County, Ky., to Kent's grandfather, Archeleus Suddreth Kent, discussing crops and relatives and friends in those locations.

Alfred Abraham Kent (1858-1944) was a physician and businessman of Lenoir, N.C. Kent was educated at the University of North Carolina and Jefferson Medical College. He served as a member of the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners, 1903-1908; member of the North Carolina General Assembly, 1911; and as president of the North Carolina Medical Society, 1912.
